Both vminfo and btop provide live resource monitoring in a terminal. btop is the stronger fit when the primary goal is a mature, highly configurable terminal resource monitor. vminfo is designed for operators who also want JSON automation, a browser dashboard, network diagnostics, or embeddable Go APIs from the same binary.

Installation and operating model
vminfo publishes Linux and macOS archives for amd64/arm64, a Windows amd64 ZIP, and Linux DEB/RPM packages. Local TUI and CLI monitoring require no config file, daemon, database, or central server.
btop also ships as a native executable and is available through many platform package managers. Its official repository emphasizes Linux, macOS, FreeBSD, and related BSD support. Both tools can be used on demand, so neither requires an always-on monitoring platform for normal terminal use.
Terminal monitoring
btop is purpose-built around the interactive terminal experience. Its project documentation highlights configurable resource boxes, visual graphs, process filtering and actions, themes, presets, mouse support, and optional GPU monitoring on supported builds.
vminfo's TUI is intentionally narrower. It focuses on an immediate host overview, network/load visibility, health warnings, and a Linux process page. The tradeoff is that the same high-level data is also available through other interfaces instead of being terminal-only.
Choose btop when terminal interaction and customization are the dominant requirements. Choose vminfo when the TUI is one entry point in a workflow that also includes scripts, a browser, or another Go program.
